Room In Our Hearts is so happy to be able to continue helping those who have been affected by Hurricane Sandy."Thanks to a generous donation from ROBIN HOOD, many more families will be able to receive our services" exclaims Katharine Koehler, Executive Director.
"Just when things were starting to look a little bleak, Robin Hood generously gave us a grant."
To date, Room In Our Hearts has redecorated over 20 rooms in the Bayshore area on a shoe string budget and have more than that number on their waiting list. The list for room requests is only growing as people are moving back into their homes and RIOH is working tirelessly to help as many as possible.
The entire organization is run by volunteers who have the skills and vision to reuse and repurpose items. Thanks to some generous Corporate Sponsors like Carpet Value Outlet in Middletown and private donations new items are acquired and used too. The recycled and new items blend together perfectly to create unique and beautifully designed spaces. Each room is designed with a specific look after on-site interviews with each family and even minor design details are not overlooked. "There is a lot of hard work, paint, molly bolts, elbow grease and pride that goes into each space", chuckles Administrative Director, Maureen O'Malley. "But as we do each room, we get to know each family that we are working with and understand their individual circumstances. Each room holds a different story of hardship and recovery. The stories propel us forward to help the next."
Thanks to our amazing group of volunteers, sponsors and the generosity of ROBIN HOOD, Room In Our Hearts, along with many families in the Bayshore area will have a very good year in 2014.
