Room In Our Hearts

Beauty and Braun

RIOH recently did a beautiful job in a room in Union Beach, NJ just in time for the holidays. The family returned to their newly constructed house after two years, due to damage from Hurricane Sandy.

Although the home was fresh and new with an open floor plan and furnished with the basic furniture from the High Sox program, homeowner Danielle said it just didn't feel like "home." She wasn't sure if it was the trauma of losing her old familiar house or that she wasn't used to the brand new environment. Room In Our Hearts was referred to her by a close friend and she was eager to have us help her make the big open kitchen, dining room, living room feel like "theirs."

"That's what we do!" stated Project Manager Alyson Santoro. After the space was measured and an itemized list was made of furniture and decor that suited the needs of the family, Alyson organized trips to local second-hand stores and calls to private donors to source all the items necessary. Her vision was to create an environment where both parent and children could feel at ease and comfortable.

With the dedicated work of our crew and the "braun" of United Way volunteers, the house was quickly transformed. When we asked the homeowner, Danielle, what she liked best, she replied , "It finally feels like HOME!" And just in time for the holidays!
