Most have been following the story about Tyler Blewitt and his family on this site and other local papers since Superstorm Sandy hit.
(If you haven't, read "Meet Tyler - Part 1 and 2".)
After ROOM IN OUR HEARTS redecorated their living room in March, complete with a special play area for five year old Tyler, a special surprize was added for Tyler. The little guy and his family are huge NHL Hockey fans. Tyler is like a little ESPN commentator. He knows NHL stats, teams and players and watches as many games as he can on TV. On April 6, Tyler and his family attended a game at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ to watch the NJ Devils play the Toronto Maple Leafs. ROOM IN OUR HEARTS surprised the family with post locker room passes to meet Maple Leaf player, James VanRiemsdyk, who grew up in Monmouth County. Tyler was thrilled beyond words and now considers JVR one of his "best friends". James was happy to cheer the family up after their harrowing ordeal from Sandy and didn't even seem to mind that Tyler's dad was wearing a Devil's Jersey. He is both a gentleman and a good sport!
