The latest project that RIOH completed was for a family that included the mother and father, seven children, their grandmother and assorted pets. This remarkable family never left their home after Hurricane Sandy because no one could take in that many people and they wanted to stay together. They weathered the storm by living upstairs in their bedrooms for months while they gutted and reassembled their downstairs living space with the help of volunteers. Although they still have quite a bit to do before the house is complete, they asked Room In Our Hearts to design a family room so they could gather and relax.
Our team designed a room with warm and inviting colors, furniture that was multi-functional and beautiful accessories to make it feel opulent. The couch provided had built-in recliners on both ends for relaxing. The chair was oversized for comfort, with an ottoman that could be used for extra seating. The coffee table was traditional in style but was repainted so it wouldn't require much care with the heavy traffic of a large family. An old drawer was painted to match the coffee table and used to hold books, remotes, etc. Since there was not an entry closet, a primitive style bench, wall shelf with hooks and baskets were added so everyone had a place to put their things when they walked in. A neutral rug was provided by CARPET VALUE OUTLET of Middletown to cozy up the space and a donated curio cabinet was filled with beautiful things to add a high-end feel.
The children and grandmother had previewed the room before their mom arrived home from work and their contagious smiles said it all. The newly redecorated room was summed up quite effectively by their mom, "Kid tested - mother approved. Our family loves our new front room!" Hard to add to that statement.
